Bio: Killian comes from a clan ruled by honor and pride. It is the duty of every Chimera, when they come of age, to go on a journey to the heart of the land, the soul of the world. It was there that they would find themselves and their calling, and upon return they would be an adult, no longer required to keep half of their head shaved in deference to their elders and their own still-developing minds. Just as all others, she embarked on this journey, carrying nothing more with her than the shirt upon her back. Just as all the others, she found her way to the world's essence. Just as all the others, she looked inside herself.
And there she saw darkness. Greed and envy and cowardice, all the things that her people loathed running rampant and suppressed within her. Recognizing it gave it enough purchase to begin breaking free of the shackles of discipline, and in a last moment of desperation, she fled.
And she found Dreamhall Shoppe, and they promised to make the darkness go away for such a small price. Just a year of her life and a promise never to go back. She took the deal without even thinking.

Bio: Clayton comes from a world almost completely removed from violence and strife. Crime, for his people, is entirely nonexistent; people rarely even speak harshly to one another.
This, of course, made the murder that much more horrific.
His claims that he would never raise a hand against his own father fell on deaf ears, as what little evidence they could find, given their lack of forensic experience, pointed directly to him. For the first time in centuries, they were faced with the necessity to exact punishment for a crime, and they quickly reached 'an eye for an eye'.
Clayton didn't want to die. Certainly not for something that he hadn't done. So he ran. Very fast, very far. And he made a deal. One eye - one half of his soul, one half of his being, and two years.
Sounded like a bargain.

Bio: All Tia has ever wanted was a chance at something better. Her parents were poor, hardworking, but poor, and in the end, it was poverty that was killing them both. Her mother caught a severe case of pneumonia and the bills from the hospital and the loss of her job from the missed days put a strain on her father and Tia to cover the loose ends. Her one treasure is her beaten up guitar from the pawnshop, her one talent her voice. But she has no time to develop her talent, even through her one dream is to become a professional musician. But her family can't afford her to go to school once she graduated and well...they come first. That doesn't stop her from wishing. She would give almost anything for her chance.

Bio: Lenore is...an oddity. Very rarely has her kind left their Plane, every more rarely is her clan turned to anything that aids life, rather than destroys it. While she can easily defend herself, she found she possessed a certain talent with growing things and a value for life, especially that which was more delicate and finite than her own. It ostracized her from her clan, and she found herself wandering alone on the Mortal plane. Not that she minded too much, but it was certainly lonesome and tiring to keep such a secret close to herself. She would like to let someone get close to her, but its too dangerous, for both parties. Better to just keep to herself than hurt them unintentionally.

Powers: She thinks she can talk to dead people. Whether or not that's true is questionable
Weapons: The closest thing she's ever had to a weapon was a plastic knife.
She isn't even allowed to have those anymore after nearly gouging out her own eye.
Bio: They thought it was autism. Everyone in her family, every doctor they took her to, was so damn sure that it was autism. But the medication didn't help at all, and while she was entirely alienated from her classmates by the time she was ten years old, she didn't display the lack of imaginative play that was typical for autistic children. Quite the opposite, really; she had a rich fantasy life, and one that she defended fiercely whenever it was called into question.
In time, the diagnosis of autism was dropped for one of paranoid schizophrenia. She has been receiving treatment for four years now, and while the majority of her symptoms are receding, she still suffers from delusions of persecution and grandeur, and she can still sometimes hear the voices of the dead.

Bio: No one is entirely sure where the mutant gene came from. It certainly wasn't present in either of his parents, it had never before made an appearance anywhere in his extended family. Despite this oddity, his family determined while he was still an infant that they were going to raise him, no matter what.
He was eight years old when that resolve shattered in the face of their fear. His mother remained loyal, but his father was consumed by the terror of what his own son could do, enough so to take the little boy out in the car one night while his mother was asleep and abandon him.
In the eleven years that have passed since then, Sandhurst has become quite skilled in the art of theft, and feels very few qualms about the small number of people he's needed to kill in order to survive. It's not like he enjoys it - he just recognizes it as a necessity. A necessity he'd like to change, but a necessity nonetheless.

Bio: His mother never told him what his father was. True, he had a step-dad so at first, nothing seemed amiss. He was a normal happy child until the day he picked up a kitchen knife and it bent in half. On its own. His step-father hadn't seen it, but his mother had, and the terror in her face when she looked at him...it was more than the nine year old could understand. It took maybe a couple months for his mother to track down some other Mage to train him, and shipped him off to the man's isolated house, severing all ties with him at the same time. He's only recently been released from his apprenticeship, and now as a result, has great control over his power but people...let's just say he doesn't handle people well.

Bio: Kaleb is one of the few Wyzards who bothered to learn hand to hand combat as well as magical powers, since death by blade is the most common death for his kind. They tended to be too arrogant, assuming they could stop the attack before it was deadly. He now lives among normal society, away from most of his teachers and clansmen. More for safety than anything else. He ticked off the wrong Sorceress and ended up with a curious enchantment. He's searching for a cure to his curse among his books, but so far he has been unsuccessful. He's beginning to doubt there's any way to remove it, even as well-read and strong as he is. He also dabbles in creating things, his favorite a mechanical fish made of gold that works a bit like a scrying mirror. Incredibly useful that, since he doesn't make a point of getting out much.

Bio: Faine was born and raised in a small mountain community, the celebrated daughter of the chieftain. She was expected to succeed him as leader when the time came, but like all of the youths of their clan, she had to prove herself first. Everyone left for a one year journey on their eighteenth birthday, and could not return until one year had passed and they had developed some sort of skill that identified them, along with traits such as honor, integrity and self-reliance. Faine was no exception, and indeed, almost expected some sort of trouble to come her way. She was caught unawares by a group involved in human trafficking, and being a virgin, she was initially a great prize. The leader of the group almost considered keeping her for herself. They soon learned their lesson. She was sold to a king of some sort, but no sooner had the gold exchanged hands that she ripped his messenger, the trafficking ring, everyone, to bits with a howling wind. She walked out of the blood unharmed and more or less emotionally intact, only to discover she was far from her chosen course and deep in territory that she had no experience with. Her first encounters with 'modern people' had not gone over well, and she adapted, living in a small apartment that bore little resemblance to the lodge that would have been hers at home. She would be content to train here, except no one has ever heard of her home, or knows where she might find it. She has no idea how she is ever supposed to get back.

Bio: Sebastian isn't entirely sure what he's doing here. Hell, he's not entirely sure why he's around at all, there's lots of big ungainly holes in his memory. It's irritating, but not a whole lot he can do about it. So he got himself a job doing various things and assimilated himself into the culture as best he could, but its hard to miss that he just doesn't quite fit in. Loner by habit and by force, he still wonders what it is he's forgetting.

Bio: She was never supposed to leave her sea-based home. But that was before the war, the destruction. Aleksia is one of the few survivors of that attack. The worst part? That it came from within, from one of her father's most trusted advisers, and carried out by him and his son. She was forced to flee, it was that or be the usurper's slave and bed warmer. The one place they could not follow her was on land. Unfortunately, this dubious sanctuary is only a temporary one at best, she must be in water at least once every couple of days or she will start to weaken, too long out of water and she will die.
The loss of her family was hard on her, and she mostly keeps to herself, for fear that any of these people might be agents of her enemies.

Powers: He doesn't know, thanks to a lifetime of being expressly forbidden to use them, under pain of death.
Weapons: Ha. That's funny.
Bio: The simple crime of conceiving a child was enough to condemn Jaden's father to an early death. The king's slaves, after all, were not allowed to mingle with the other sex. His mother was allowed, however, to carry the child to term; there was a spot to be filled now, after all. As soon as he was born, he was taken away from his mother, to be raised and trained by the rest of the men in the king's service.
And he learned out the hard way, as he grew, that the misfortune of being born with red hair was enough to leave him on the receiving end of a society's worth of bigotry whose cause had long since been forgotten. He was used only for the most menial of tasks, and frequently received the punishment for the altercations of others.
He doesn't understand why it is that he smells fear on the taskmaster whenever he receives lashings. All he knows is he's quickly approaching his breaking point.

Powers: She can effectively 'speak' to any sort of computer, as well as various other handy tricks that come with being part machine

Bio: Delia was born entirely of flesh and blood, in a dimension similar to our own. They were more advanced, and more driven. When she turned eighteen, she volunteered for a project aimed toward turning regular people into the ideal soldier through robotic augmentation. It was a long, painful process, but she endured, and she came out of it better. She maintained all human emotion and sensation, accompanied by superhuman strength and ability, as well as a fun array of weaponry hidden away in her restructured limbs.
She was recently sent on a covert mission to discover the whereabouts of an enemy stronghold and destroy. But things went horribly, horribly wrong. She was caught, and all the information regarding the military operations of her own country that was stored within her computerized data banks was stolen with surprising ease.
So much for the ideal soldier.

Bio: Leo is the son of one of Aleksia's personal guard. His father charged him with protecting her when she was forced to flee, and has refused to leave her side ever since. He's one of her oldest friends, but its never developed beyond that. Too much like a sister to him for him to even consider it. But still, he would go to any lengths to keep her safe, both out of loyalty to her and for the memory of his father.

Powers: Immunity to the stone sleep that claims the rest of his kind at dawn

Bio: Most people thought that gargoyles were just stonework, nothing more than intricate decoration. And that's true, if you're talking about the ones that perch atop pseudo-gothic buildings.
Now, if you'd fancy a trip down into the sewers, you'd find something quite surprising. Gargoyles, not of stone, but of flesh and blood, living out their nights beneath the public awareness. Or at least trying to. There's this slight problem where things tend to go awry.
Darien was the youngest member of a clan living in the undercity of Chicago, the most stubborn and opinionated one of the lot. He managed to remain discovery as he befriended a human girl, who just so happened to have a small amount of talent in the art of witchcraft and a very large art. She found a spell that would prevent him from turning to stone when the sun rose, and they were both eager to have it cast.
It worked perfectly. For Darien. His friend, though? Not so much.
She's trapped forever as a statue, taking his place. And that sort of thing doesn't go unnoticed or unpunished by a panicked community.
The humans found his clan one day while he was away, and they destroyed every last one. Even the eggs.

Bio: There is a certain subset of people born to her people, unfortunate enough to be fathered by the gods. They are marked from birth with the sigil of their fathers and lords, and this must be visible at all times lest the wrath of they who give them life take insult. Oftentimes, this was the only requirement of such children. But Creon, Lord of Justice, demanded that his children remain silent at all times, lest they say something to sully his name.
Anahita is one of dozens of his children. She complies with her father's demands because he is a god and to do otherwise would be unthinkable. But there are times when she wonders what it feels like to speak and sing. What her own voice would sound like.

Bio: It wasn't supposed to happen this way. It was an accident, pure and simple. For curiosity's sake, really, he had snuck into the forbidden section, stupidity had made him open the book. All it had taken was one word, mangled though it was, to rip his life apart. The incantation, once started, could not be stopped, and the magic tore his home like a firestorm, consuming all in its path. It killed everyone, and all he could do was watch. Their souls were sealed within a bow, making both the weapon and its wielder incredibly powerful. But at a terrible terrible price. Now totally alone, he wanders the world, since the libraries of his homeland proved useless, for a way to reverse what he has done, or at the very least, lay the souls of his people to proper rest.

Bio: There wasn't anything all that atypical about her upbringing. After completing her basic education, she began an apprenticeship at the local red house. It was, overall, a cushy position. After all, the work was easy, she was given comfortable lodgings for free . The only downside was the occasional boorish customer, but that quickly faded as she found work at a more prestigious house
At this point, she's the most highly-sought courtesan in the region; men (and certain women) will pay three month's salary for one night with her. And she's really quite alright with that. The pay's good, the work's enjoyable. It just gets a little...empty...from time to time.

Powers: Production and manipulation of kinetic energy
Weapon: Trained in all things required of a military man, though he prefers unarmed combat.
Bio: Bored by the schooling system, Donovan lied about his age and joined the military before the law would have allowed him to. A master of strategy, his quickly rose through the ranks, becoming after two years one of the youngest on record to reach colonel. He was placed in charge of the special ops unit whose purpose was to research and test the potential applications of the mechanization of human volunteers. It took a year before they moved beyond simulations, and two for them to perfect the process of human augmentation through sometimes ugly trial and error. The result of three long years of hard work was a young woman named Delia, for all appearances the perfect synthesis of nature's creation and man's.
Unfortunately, there was a little too much human in her to make her invulnerable, and too much information stored in her hard drive to make that safe. What was supposed to be a simple scouting mission turned disastrous, ending with her stores of delicate information in the hands of the enemy. If she was left in any condition to return, it wasn't until after Donovan, and the rest of the team, had been killed.

Powers: She was born with a vast amount of magical potential, though her attempts to control it unaided frequently result in disaster.
Weapons: The varius foci she uses to channel her powers. Her headdress protects her mind from assault while the arm band grants her to ability to manipulate the winds. The Phoenix Gate, which requires more energy, allows her to create physical shields which render their target invisible and halt time outside. This is incredibly helpful when using her anklet, the first focus she acquired, to teleport.
Bio: The humans would have found the clan beneath Chicago without Darien's mistake. Despite being older, and in general more sensible, Tarith was always rendered stupid by her need to collect more foci. Though she was typically careful about acquiring them, she paid less attention to caution than she ought when it came to the Phoenix Gate. It was in the possession of a talentless human art collector, its potential wasted as it rested inside a glass case in his richly-furnished home.
Theft among gargoyles is not even thought of. But she had no love for the humans, and thus no qualms about stealing from one. Unfortunately, her ignorance of the human lifestyle means she did not understand how their security systems worked. The cameras meant nothing to her, and they caught every detail as she stole in and out, claiming her prize, and retreating into the sewers.
The footage was quickly made public, and it mingled with the tales the girl who turned to stone after dallying with a monster. Panic and outrage were both quick to follow. Tarith was with her clan the day they were destroyed.

Weapons: blades of any sort, though he is more specialized in shortblades and things that can be easily handled underwater.
Bio: All in all, indenturement, or rather, slavery, to a rebel would-be king was not in his plans for the future. He was a hired guard, one of the best in the buisness, and low-born enough that none of the nobles felt threatened by hiring him. And most kept their relationship strictly buisness, which worked out well for him. Got him paid, kept him busy, and every once in awhile, he learned something new from the other guards. Things were going well until the wife of the man he was currently working for took an interest in him. An unwanted, dangerous interest that he tried to politely refuse. But she was a vain woman, and a proud one, who had never been refused. So she ambushed him, wearing next to nothing and tried to force him into her bed. When he ran, she decided to ruin him.
Women were protected, valued, and in some cases, spoiled. Rape was a very serious offense against even a low born woman, against a noble, it was practically a death sentence. So when she accused him of rape, and it was her word against his, of course, he lost the trial. The man, however, saw some sort of potential in him and convinced the council to spare his life, in exchange for a time of complete servitude. He had no choice but to accept, though he expected to be handed over to the woman, his master had something else in mind entirely. He was to help them assassinate the royal family and take over the country.
Which he did, with stunning efficiency. He'd been a palace guard at one point and knew it well. And the family, though they'd been kind to him, he could not fight the collar around his neck that was the mark of servitude. So he'd killed them, the ones unlucky to be in the palace when the coup began. But the daughter-heir, Aleksia, and her guard, managed to escape. Furious, his master sent him on a mission to find them, promising that once she was dead, then he would free Xander. A life for a life. It seemed fair.

Powers: Mixed magyck, though he avoids using magic that harms life if he can help it.
Weapons: Metal-topped staff, small knives.
Bio: He hadn't expected to be a teacher. His order allowed it, but he was so involved in his own studies, he hadn't thought he was ready to be a teacher. Sometimes those things just happened, maybe it was fate, if he believed in such a thing. In any case, Kaleb ended up on his doorstep, a pale, thin child with huge blue eyes and enormous potential. His academic nature wouldn't allow him to simply leave the boy alone. Of course, it proved that Kaleb was a bright boy and devoured the books Marc gave him, threw his entire being into learning. So maybe he should have expected that anything that even hinted at being off limits, his apprentice would try. And try he did, with disasterous results. His attempts got the attention of a dangerous woman, one of Marc's many enemies. And the boy got himself cursed. Marc tried to help him undo it, but Kaleb was determined to undo what he had wrought himself, and disappeared one day.
Many years later, Marc has finally caught up with him, having abandoned many of his own projects to find his apprentice. And he couldn't even say why. Maybe he actually had some attachment to the boy, maybe he just couldn't really stomach the thought of him stranded out somewhere, with his curse.

Weapon: Hidden blades, and various steel and wood artifacts that doubled as artifacts.
Bio: Liliya was a gifted student, a bright girl that was talented in pretty much anything she tried. She was overjoyed when she discovered summoning though, having always related better to animals and spirits than to many of her own flesh and blood. There were a few exceptions, Hardarvial, who was always like a mentor and brother to her, the few girls that seemed to be as in love with learning as she, and the occassional boy that she let get close to her. But there was always this sense that things were not as peaceable as they seemed, that trouble was on the horizon. And even though her spiritual companions warned her, she didn't interpret it in time to prevent Hardarvial from speaking the words that destroyed them all. Next thing she knew, she was trapped with the rest of her clan in some sort of object. They saw the world through their sole surivior, Hardarvial, and he called them the Lost. She realized that he'd saved them from dying, but as he searched for a way to reverse what he'd done, she wondered if it wouldn't have been kinder to simply let them go, rather that truck around so many bodiless souls for the seeming eons he's been wandering.

Power: Immunity to 'cold iron' and transmutation, he can turn inanimate objects into living things and vice versa, though living to unliving takes a little longer.
Weapon: Shortblades and a length of spiked chain
Bio: Aspen has been around a very long time. Unlike his rather benevolent namesake, he's never been inclined to be particularly pleasant or kind. In fact, he hates his parents for the name they gave him, having no idea what kind of man they expected to grow from a boy named 'Aspen'. It was a disaster amoungst his peers, until they discovered his rather explosive temper. Everyone called him Asp, like the poisonous earth-snake, unless they wanted to face his considerable expertise with his fists. Of course, when it was discovered he could handle cold iron without issue, that people really began to fear him. He used it to his advantage, and isolated himself. Though the lack of relationships transmuted into a desire to have things like himself, special, rare, valuable. So he started taking things, and no one really had the power to stop him. Once he found out his other talent, changing things well. There was little chance the owner could even prove he'd taken anything if he were caught, assuming the owner was still alive. To suit his new life, he discarded the name his parents gave him and thus severed his ties to them. He took the name Andivar, after a famed demon lord, and became one of the more feared and sought after theives. He, after all, could be stopped by very little, which practically guaranteed that the job would be done.
Of course, he hadn't been expecting to find someone like himself in desire, if not in talent. Indira was special too. And pretty. They understood each other, after all, it seemed like they were both after something, and yet no matter how much he took, he was never satisfied, and she never seemed to find what she was looking for. So it was only natural that they worked and wandered together, and they worked well, perhaps complimented each other. But he never expected anything permanent, after all it was the nature of things to change, and one day perhaps they'd both find what they wanted.
